URGENT 24 LIVES at RISK

*****MATCHING DONATION CHALLENGE!*****

We have just received a matching donation offer!  $500 is up for grabs, all donations will be matched by one very generous donor up to the $500 limit. Please spread the word, no amount is too small as it will be doubled by one of our supporters!!!

We all really thought we were past the bad news but we are not.  All the Puppy Promises families decided their puppies can not and could not stay with them for the Thanksgiving weekend.  It has been a logistical nightmare trying to find places for 24 puppies.
We only have 48 hrs to move the puppies to their rescues or the people helping out with their fostering will take them to the shelter :-(:-(

We have found someone who is willing to drive at the drop of a hat but all 24 puppies need: vet checks, health certificates, gas money and a few dollars to have their moms and other unaltered pets in their homes spayed and neutered. We are so very upset, we were told the pups would be able to stay with the owners but every single family changed their minds.  Please help us save the lives of the 24 wee ones.  What a great gift for people on your list: the gift of life enveloped in a puppy kiss.

Each pup needs $50 to hop on the express van to the Northeast. Please Paypal you donation to fundraising@savingshelterpets.com or simply click the button at the end of this bulletin.
24 pups x $50 = $1200

Total Needed      $1200
Donations           $200
Challenge funds   $500
RECIVED $105
Still Need            $395

Giving Thanks: In honor of Major

Thanksgiving is almost here and then holiday season will be going full swing. It is the time of year for one and all to count our blessings and give thanks for all the good things in our lives. So many times in the rush to get things done, we take for granted the things in life which give us so much joy.

This season is especially hard on the shelter pets, often forgotten as there is just so much to do. Boarding is full as folks leave for vacations, and fewer of them make it out to spend the season in a forever home. With that thought in mind, we would like to share with you a tribute to one of the lucky ones. Written by a member of our transport committee who mourns the loss of her best friend this month. Please take the time this season to love your family, friends, and furkids.

In rescue you perfect the art of saying goodbye. For three years my life has been full of goodbyes, so many goodbyes to the lives I could not save. Often with tears for the ones I have as another foster finds a forever home, but at least those tears come with a smile and a sense of wonder that your heart can grow a little each time you say goodbye. Because those goodbyes really mean good luck, have a great life, go with my love.

But today I said goodbye that truly meant Goodbye, go with love, be at peace, and I will meet you on the other side my dear, dear friend.

All of my other goodbyes have come with a promise of happy updates as life begins with a new family. This time there will be no more pictures for us, they have already been taken. No more memories to make, only moments to remember. Today we said Goodbye to the half chewed shoes, broken down couch, slobbery favorite hats, mangled TV remote controls. Goodbye to shredded window moldings and torn comfy quilts, Goodbye to beer cans and fruit cans and puppy food cans all smashed to oblivion and completely licked clean. Goodbye to milk jugs full of holes and flattened flower pots. Goodbye to one odd chipmunk who looked more surprised than we did to be caught by such an old man.

Yesterday I awoke to a four dog house full of happy barking and playful antics. I ruffled a warm loving head of one who jumped for joy to see me. As I head to bed it is quiet and still, tonight has become a three dog night. Yes, I still have three furry companions to warm my heart, but nothing can warm the void left by my best friends passing.

A bright light left this world today, he can only look down at us from above. The stars seem a little brighter tonight as I am sure he is shining down on me even now. Oh how I miss the light in his eyes forever snuffed out.

We buried our boy between two massive oak trees, whose amber boughs reach out overhead to shelter his final resting place. Life has come full circle today, although he traveled about with us, he is now at rest a mile or two from where he was born. As his each living day he was filled with hope and love, he is laid to rest facing east, to forever face a new horizon.

My path in life was chosen for me twelve years ago by a brown fluffy puppy as I struggled to rescue him from certain death by starvation. And so I give thanks today for my special boy. Thank you Major for guiding my way, thank you today really means Goodbye, I have purpose because of you. Until we meet at the bridge, Goodbye Love, you are missed, Goodbye.

R.I.P. Major Nikolakis 12/1996 - 11/9/2008

2 dogs, divorcing owners need $350 to avoid overcrowed animal control

We are frantically trying to help Shady and his friend Spunky stay out of the local animal control.
Their parents are divorcing and they are the ones to pay the price :-( We have until Monday at 12pm to raise funds for these faithful friends or the owners will drop them at the animal control :-(

Shady needs $150 for transport to his rescue, a vet check-up and a health certificate
Spunky needs $200 for transport to her rescue, a vet check up a health certificate and spay.

We know this is such short notice and we thank everyone in advance for their donations to save Shady and Spunky from being turned into a very crowded shelter.

Rescue #60 Hits The Road!!

Great news!! Saving Shelter Pets' Rescue #60 is on the road, and nine dogs and 26 puppies are traveling in the van on their way to freedom!!
We would like to thank EVERYONE who donated, cross-posted, told their friends, sent positive thoughts, or otherwise helped out on this one. You all are truly an awesome group of supporters, and we couldn't save ANY of these dogs without you!!! Please know that we REALLY appreciate the help we get from each and every one of you.

Also - a huge thanks to the SSP Transport Committee who works tirelessly to make every detail of these rescue efforts come together. Another fabulous job!!

The photos below show the transport van at it's last pick-up spot, fully loaded with dogs and supplies, and ready to roll!! This is what makes all the fundraising and hard work worthwhile - to see all those fuzzy faces, eager to embark on their journey in search of love in a home of their own, and knowing that none of them would likely have stood a chance without the teamwork of SSP and you, our loyal supporters. Thank you for helping us help THEM!!

SSP Puppies - Need Funds by Midnight Tonight!!

PUPPIES!

PLEASE HELP them!! Fundraising deadline is MIDNIGHT TONIGHT!!

Saving Shelter Pets has 13 puppies from three Puppy Promises litters that have rescues ready and waiting for them. They can travel on the Rescue #60 transport van later this week, BUT they need donations to cover their expenses!!

Its been a tough month for the Puppy Promises program. We lost an entire litter recently, when their owner (who had made prior arrangements to surrender the pups to SSP) was forced by his landlord to get the dogs off his property immediately, or face eviction from his home. As a result, the puppies were taken to the shelter before SSP was notified. Sadly, after entering the shelter the pups are ineligible to travel on our transport (because of exposure to disease), or even continue in the Puppy Promises program. Needless to say, we are heartbroken over the loss of all five puppies.

So, because of this, we are working harder than ever for the remaining three litters on this transport. We need your help to get these 13 puppies out of danger and on their way to rescue next week!

The cost is a little higher this month per pup due to the litter lost to the shelter. Their mother still needs to be spayed to prevent this tragedy from happening again! Each remaining pup needs $75 to cover their vetting & transport plus the spay surgery for their mother (and spay/neuter of any other animals in the household). Donations of any amount are always welcome!!

Amount needed: 13 x $75 = $975

Amount raised: $230

STILL NEEDED $745

DEADLINE: midnight Tuesday (11/11)

Please help spread the word, these guys really need to make it HOME! Thank you again to all of our loyal supporters, we could not save ANY of them without YOU!

They need a ride HOME not to the POUND!

These four dogs are owner surrenders, BUT they are currently still at their home awaiting their vet appointments. Although, they have escaped exposure to disease in the pound so far, they will still need medical care before they can head out. If we cannot raise their funds to get their vetting completed, they will NOT MAKE THE VAN! The owners WILL take them to the pound of they cannot travel on the van this go round.

They are so close to freedom they can almost smell it. Each dog needs $225 to cover their shots, spay/neuter, Heartworm test, boarding, and bus fare. The deadline is midnight Thursday, Nov 6th so these guys can keep their Friday vet appointment. Please help spread the word and crosspost for these sweethearts, they really need their tickets to ride!

Total Needed: $900

Donations: $480

Still Need: $420
