DeKalb Dogs - Stanley Might Have A Chance!!

If you read our post from yesterday, you know that we fell way short of our fundraising goal for Baloo and Stanley, the two dogs from DeKalb Co shelter. Because we did not have enough funds to pull both dogs, we made the very difficult decision to leave Stanley behind. :(

BUT - One of our very generous supporters contacted us last night, and offered to give Stanley a chance to be a SSP dog after all!

Here's the deal - This supporter will provide ALL of remaining funds needed for Stanley, if our other supporters will rally to raise $250 for Baloo's vetting and transport!!

Baloo

Total Needed: $550
Raised so far: $300
STILL NEEDS: $250

Stanley

Total Needed: $250
Donations: $250 (?)
STILL NEEDS: FULLY FUNDED, if challenge is met!!!

Can SSP save BOTH of these dogs after all? You can help make it happen!! If we raise just $250 for Baloo by 5pm Saturday, we can get them BOTH out of DeKalb this weekend.

PLEASE HELP THEM!! Every $5 or $10 donated for Baloo will help him, PLUS it gives Stanley the chance we thought he didn't have.

Thank you to our supporter for offering up this challenge to help Stanley, and thank you to ALL of you for your continuing support. We couldn't do it without you!!!

DeKalb Dogs - We Tried. But... (Sophie's Choice update)

We had hoped to post a happy update today, saying that the Baloo and Stanley have the funds they need and are safe. Unfortunately, that isn't the case.

We raised only $325 of the $800 we need to save these two dogs - and that means we must make the difficult choice to leave one dog behind. After much agonizing thought and discussion, we have decided to help Baloo. Although he requires more funding than Stanley, his eye condition is painful, and we can't bear the idea of allowing him to suffer in the shelter any longer. As for Stanley, we can only pray that someone will adopt him out of DeKalb before his time is up. The shelter staff says that he will be safe at least until tomorrow, but there are no guarantees beyond that. Sorry Stanley - we tried for you buddy, we really did. :(

This is the first time in SSP's three-plus year history (66 transports to date) that we have ever backed out on a dog due to lack of funding. We're terribly sad about this. However, we understand that the ailing economy is forcing everyone, including us, to make some very difficult decisions now and in the months ahead. We must raise funds for 50 Puppy Promises puppies in the next two weeks, and it's critical that we begin that effort in the next few days.

The funds we raised to date will pay for Baloo's surgery and alleviate his pain, and we have those arrangements made. He still needs funds to cover his regular vetting and transport to rescue, and we'll work on that in the next two weeks, along with the puppies.

We wish the news was better, and that we could have saved both dogs. However, we feel it's important that we be realistic about what we can accomplish, and be open and honest with you all about it, whether it's good news or bad. Thanks to everyone who donated, cross-posted, and helped in any way on this one, and thanks to each of you for your continued support.

Dekalb Dogs - Only 6 Hours Left to Save Them!!

SIX HOURS LEFT!! Deadline is MIDNIGHT TONIGHT!!

I'm making a personal appeal for these poor unlucky souls. So many animals never make it out of DeKalb Co shelter in Georgia. The size, coloring, and health issues of these dogs gives them VERY LITTLE CHANCE to ever find a family of their own, unless SSP helps them!! Please consider making a donation, so that we can give them the chance at life they deserve. As always, donations of any size are greatly appreciated!! Thank you!!

Baloo

Baloo is a big Great Pyrenees Chow mix boy whose purple tongue has scared off local adopters. Strike two for Baloo is a medical condition called Entropion, meaning his lower eyelid is turned into his eye requiring surgery to correct. Not many people would adopt a dog knowing they need immediate medical attention. Baloo's eye surgery estimate came in at $300, plus he will still need his shots and neuter. Total sponsorship for Baloo is $550. We think he is worth it, please help us find a way to make it happen for this big teddy bear!

Total Needed: $550
Donations: $115
Still Need: $435

Stanley

Our second candidate is Stanley, Baloo's kennelmate. Stanley is one of the nicest dogs our volunteer has ever met! He is a very friendly boy without being over the top. We think he is a plot hound mix, but his brindle fur has made his chances of finding a family in the south pretty slim. Total sponsorship for Stanley is $250 to cover his vetting and transport. Can you help Stanley make it to his forever home?

Total Needed: $250
Donations: $70
Still Need: $180

The deadline to raise funds for these two boys is Wednesday so we have a chance to get Baloo's medical needs taken care of and give him a chance to recover before the van. Please help us bail these deserving boys out of doggy jail and send them on to their forever homes!!!

Two Days left and a few new additions!

Fundraising Deadline is MIDNIGHT TONIGHT (Thur)!!

UPDATE:
A few last-minute changes to the line-up for this transport: We recently learned that Lila has mange, and must stay behind until next transport. However we found a dog to take her place this trip - Osita!! See her pic and story below. Also, we recently found a rescue to take a litter of seven Shep mix pups, so they are looking for transport funds too!! Their info is below as well.

NOTE - We have a matching donation challenge for $550, to fully fund this transport!! Thanks to two of our very generous supporters, every dollar donated means TWO dollars for the doggies in need!!

We have received $220 in funds so far, in response to this challenge. We still need $330!!

We MUST have funds to save these dogs!! Please take a look below at the faces of the dogs who desperately need our help. If you can even spare just $5, you will be making a HUGE difference in the lives of these poor animals!
Deadline to raise funds: Thursday, February 12th, midnight EST.

SONNY

Sonny is just a baby at only 3-4 months old. She belongs to a family that had previously signed up for our Puppy Promises program, but failed to tell us about this little girl. :( The family can not take care of Sonny and is being forced to surrender her to animal control. We can't bear to see her end up in the shelter, so we're hoping to get her onboard our next transport with your help! Sonny needs $175 in sponsorship to cover her vet exam, shots, spay, and transport to the Northeast.

Sponsorship: $175
Raised so far: $158

Still needed: $17

LILA (has mange, will travel next trip, please donate for her treatment)

This gorgeous redbone coonhound is just under a year old and doesn't even have a name yet. She was dumped at our foster's home, along with the other pup in the picture (whose original owner was recently found - yay!) Just like Dawn, this poor girl has mange as well, and we're hoping that she'll be healthy in time to get on the next SSP transport. She needs $200 in sponsorship to cover her vet exam, shots, spay, mange treatment, and transport to the Northeast. UPDATE - The coonhound has been named Lila by one of our generous supporers!

Sponsorship: $200
Raised so far: $130

Still needed: $70

4 SHARPEI PUPS

These adorable, smushy-faced little pups were also dumped at our foster's house. They already have a rescue in the Northeast ready to take them -- all they need is sponsorship to get there! Each pup needs $50 in sponsorship to cover their shots, deworming, and transport to the Northeast (for a total of $200 sponsorship for the entire litter).

Sponsorship (all 4 pups): $200
Raised so far: $200

Fully Sponsored!!

3 AUSSIE MIX PUPS

This box full of cuties just signed up for our Puppy Promises program! This means they will thankfully avoid a trip to animal control, and they will be dewormed, vaccinated, and fostered by their owners until our next transport. Not only does the Puppy Promises program save these pups' lives, but it will also pay to spay their mom (no more puppies for her!) and any other animals in the owner's household. Please help us keep these pups in our program -- instead of animal control! Each pup needs $50 in sponsorship to cover their shots, deworming, and transport to the Northeast (for a total of $150 sponsorship for the entire litter).

Sponsorship (all 3 pups): $150
Raised so far: $115

Still needed: $35

2 TERRIER PUPS
These little guys also signed up for our Puppy Promises program. They are not even 2 months old yet. Please help us keep these pups in our program -- instead of animal control! Each pup needs $50 in sponsorship to cover their shots, deworming, and transport to the Northeast (for a total of $100 sponsorship for the entire litter).

Sponsorship (both pups): $100
Raised so far: $100

Fully Sponsored!!

PEACHES
P
eaches is a Dekalb Animal Control dog who is desperately seeking a forever home of her own. She has waited patiently for almost a year and one of our rescues has asked if she can come north. We would love to see her get out and into her own home. Peaches has a partial sponsorship already, she only needs $100 to cover her boarding and bus fare.

Sponsorship: $100
Raised so far: $100
Fully Sponsored!!

12 BORDER COLLIE PUPS

Yep, you read that right -- 12 pups!! Also part of our Puppy Promises program, this adorable bunch is desperately seeking help to get to their rescue in the Northeast. Animal control is no place for these cuties! :( Each pup needs $50 in sponsorship to cover their shots, deworming, and transport to the Northeast (for a total of $600 sponsorship for the entire litter).

Sponsorship (all 12 pups): $600
Raised so far: $415
Still needed: $185

ALVIN

Alvin is a special case, he has been passed over for adoption here in the south as he is the last pup of a litter of puppies fostered by one of our supporters. This fun loving guy really just wants a forever home, and we have found a place for him to go, we just need a little help getting him there. All Alvin needs is a $50 bus ticket to ride and he'll be home free.

Sponsorship: $50
Raised so far: $50

Fully Sponsored!!!

4 HOUND/BOXER PUPS

Unfortunately, black dogs don't stand a chance in Georgia shelters. Thankfully, these pups were signed up for our Puppy Promises program instead of being dumped at animal control. All they need now is a little help to get to their rescue! Each pup needs $50 in sponsorship to cover their shots, deworming, and transport to the Northeast (for a total of $200 sponsorship for the entire litter).

Sponsorship (all 4 pups): $200
Raised so far: $145

Still needed: $55

5 SIBERIAN HUSKY PUPS
This litter of 5 Siberian Husky puppies also signed up for our Puppy Promises program. Each pup needs $50 in sponsorship to cover their shots, deworming, and transport to the Northeast (for a total of $250 sponsorship for the entire litter).

Sponsorship (all 5 pups): $250
Raised so far: $255

Fully Sponsored!!

4 BULLDOG PUPS
Unfortunately, we do not have photos yet of these 4 pups, but you can bet that bulldog pups are always A-D-O-R-A-B-L-E! :) They also are part of our Puppy Promises program. Each pup needs $50 in sponsorship to cover their shots, deworming, and transport to the Northeast (for a total of $250 sponsorship for the entire litter).

Sponsorship (all 4 pups): $200
Raised so far: $125
Still needed: $75

DAWN

You may remember Dawn -- she is a 17lb whippet mix who was found on the side of the road --- and, thanks to your generous donations, has just completed treatment for her mange. She loves to play fetch and is hoping to make her way to the Northeast so she can find a family to call her own! All previous vetting costs have been paid, so Dawn now only needs $50 in sponsorship to cover her transport to the Northeast.

Sponsorship: $50
Raised so far: $50

Fully Sponsored!!!

OSITA (new addition!!)
Osita has recently finished HW treatment in Georgia (compliments of one of our rescue partners) and needs a ride to her rescue in NJ. She wants to hop on SSP Transport #66 - Can you help make that happen for her?

Sponsorship: $75
Raised so far: $50
Still needed: $25

7 SHEP MIX PUPS (new addition!!)
This litter of 7 Shepherd mix pups is also part of our Puppy Promises program. Each pup needs $50 in sponsorship to cover their shots, deworming, and transport to the Northeast (for a total of $350 sponsorship for the entire litter).

Sponsorship (all 5 pups): $350
Raised so far: $170

Still needed: $180
