Special October Fundraiser for a Deserving Pup

10/3/10 Update: We received $640 in donations towards Chloe's leg surgery -- thank you!!!! :) Her vet bill will now be paid in full and the extra $40 will roll over to help dogs on next month's transport.

Saving Shelter Pets thanks everyone who has generously donated for our recent transports. Because of you, MANY formerly homeless dogs are now beloved members of a family. Rescue #84 was our latest success - 35 dogs and puppies, liberated from an uncertain fate in Georgia and whisked northward by transport van to safety in their awaiting rescues. Except for one thing - two of them didn't make the trip.

Remember the Puppy Promises litter of two adorable little Doxie mix puppies? Sadly, over the weekend one of them was hit by a car at her owner's house. Her leg was broken badly, she was in great pain, and she needed emergency surgery. When the owner delivered the heartbreaking news, needless to say, we were devastated.

Chloe (left, before the accident) and Joey (right)

We sent the transport van on its way, without these two pups. But what to do for this injured little girl? We are not in a financial position to pay for emergency surgery. We talked about humane euthanasia. But the vet assured us that, with the operation, her prognosis for a full recovery was very good. After being so close to freedom, we couldn't let her down when she needed us most!! And so, after much discussion and soul-searching, we decided to give this precious pup the surgery she needed to save her life.

Our brave little girl (who we've named Chloe) came through surgery just fine, and is currently recovering at the Dalton Animal Hospital in Georgia. She has a big nasty incision on her left rear leg, but the vet is optimistic that she's going to heal up nicely in the next few weeks. She and her brother Joey, who stayed behind to keep her company, should be ready to travel in October or November.

But the decision to save her life comes at a price - specifically, $600 for her surgery and stay at the vet hospital. (That is a super-special discount from the $1200 it would have ordinarily cost. Thank you Dalton Animal Hospital!!) Our Medical Emergency fund was wiped out in an incident this summer, and it is currently bone dry. Therefore, we must turn to you, our dedicated supporters, to help us do the right thing for this little girl.

Won't you please help us out with a small donation, to affirm that saving her life is the right decision? All proceeds from this fundraiser will go directly to pay the bill for her surgery and treatment.

We did it!! Update on the "Fall Freedom Run"

We did it!!!
As always, a huge thank you to all our supporters who donated to Transport #84! :)

Just a few days ago we were very worried that we would not have enough funds to make this one happen, but you all pulled through for us & the pups! Not only did we raise enough donations to cover everyone's vetting & transport, but we have a little extra leftover. :) This amount will go towards our upcoming "emergency dog" fundraiser to help pay for a little pup's broken leg, and a couple other special needs dogs.

Thank you all for your continued support!!

Molly

Molly is a delightful little JRT/Beagle mix from Murray County. The shelter cannot hold her any longer, and she needs SSP to save her!! A rescue in NJ has agreed to take her, so now she just needs the funds for her vetting, spay, and transport - then she'll be her way. Please donate for her!!

Total Needed: $200
Funds Raised: $200
Fully sponsored - thank you! :)

Austin, Bentley, DeLorean, Mercedes, Morgan, Opel, and Porsche

These seven Lab mix kids are siblings, about 6 months old, and have not yet experienced the love and stability that comes with a permanent home. Their foster mom absolutely can NOT hold them any longer - they are getting WAY too big and boisterous!! Thankfully, one of our rescues in CT can take all of them, and save them from an uncertain future in Georgia. Will you help them get to freedom? They need $150 each for vetting, spay/neuter, and transport.

Total Needed: $1,050
Funds Raisecd: $843 (5 pups safe!)
STILL NEED: $207 (2 pups still need help!)

Litter of 2 Doxie mix puppies

These tiny pups may be homeless, but they have big dreams - a loving home with good food, lots of belly rubs, and a warm, soft bed to sleep in. Thankfully they found SSP's Puppy Promises program!! With your help, we can make their dreams come true, AND spay their momma to prevent future unwanted litters. They each need $75 - won't you please donate so they can live their dream?

Total Needed: $150
Funds Raised: $150
FULLY SPONSORED!!

Litter of 7 Beagle/Hound/Aussie mix puppies

How adorable are these colorful kids? They don't understand why no one in Georgia wants them, and they heard SSP can help them find their way to loving families in the Northeast (and spay their momma too!). They need just $50 each in donations for their vetting and transport. We can't let them down - please help!!

Total Needed: $350
Funds Raised: $205 (4 pups safe)
STILL NEED: $145 (3 pups still need help!)

Litter of 3 Bulldog/Husky mix puppies

From the looks on those faces, these cuties have no idea how much danger they are in!! Puppies don't always fare well in the Murray Co shelter, and they need SSP's Puppy Promises program to keep them out of there!! They also need your donations for their vetting and transport. Can you make this happen for them?

Total Needed: $180
Funds Raised: $180
FULLY SPONSORED!!

Litter of 6 Corgi/JRT mix puppies

There isn't much cuter than a tub full of little pink-nosed puppies - but these guys need our help!! They are homeless, and they're counting on Puppy Promises program to get them out of Georgia and into a good home with lots of love. We'll spay their momma too, and it takes just $50 each - please donate for them!!

Total Needed: $300
Funds Raised: $185 (3 pups safe)
STILL NEED: $115 (3 pups still need help!)

Litter of 3 Pittie mix puppies

We know their mom is a Pit Bull, so these guys must take after their daddy - they're not Pittie at all!! In any case, they're VERY sweet and they need a home. Please donate to get them on their way to freedom. Also, because they're Puppy Promises pups, we'll spay their Pit Bull momma so no more Pit Bull pups for her!! Let's do it!!

Total Needed: $180
Funds Raised: $180
FULLY SPONSORED!!

Litter of 6 "Mixed Breed" puppies

Well, we don't know much about these little ones from our Puppy Promises program. Mom is a Heinz 57, and no one knows who Daddy is. But come on - they're puppies!! Therefore, they're totally adorable - and they need you. :) They each need $50 to get to their rescue AND to spay their momma too. Please help!!

Total Needed: $300
Funds Raised: $150 (3 pups safe!)
STILL NEED: $150 (3 pups still need help!)

We can't save any of them without YOU - thanks for your support!!

Grant Proposal:
Chatsworth, GA, and the surrounding area of Murray County is an economically depressed area where the local animal control facility has a high kill rate and much of the local population knows little about the consequences of pet overpopulation. With $25,000 from Pepsi, Saving Shelter Pets can significantly reduce the animal shelter population in this area. We plan to conduct ten free spay/neuter clinics in the coming year (for family pets and also feral cats captured by local residents with our assistance). By doing this, not only will the turn-in rates at animal control be lowered with fewer litters born, but we will also be able to educate pet owners about the importance of spaying and neutering their pets and the basics of responsible pet ownership. Previous clinics of this type have been successfully run by Saving Shelter Pets, and all were very well-received by the participating residents.
